# Nebivolol

## Overview

Nebivolol (Bystolic) is a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker used for hypertension and heart failure, and used off-label in anabolic contexts for blood pressure management. It blocks beta-1 receptors in the heart to reduce heart rate, contractility, and renin release, while its nitric-oxide-mediated vasodilatory effect helps preserve peripheral blood flow and limits some of the fatigue and sexual dysfunction seen with older beta-blockers. The compound has a roughly 17-hour half-life, reaches peak plasma within roughly 3 hours, and shows about 54% bioavailability with significant metabolism variation, so dosing is individualized and once-daily. Effects include blood pressure reduction and heart rate control with a favorable metabolic and sexual-function profile, while risks are bradycardia, fatigue, and the general beta-blocker cautions around abrupt discontinuation and asthma.
