# Kisspeptin

*Also known as: Kisspeptin-10, Metastin*

Neuropeptide that drives GnRH release upstream of the HPG axis; researched for hormone restoration.

## Overview

Kisspeptin is a neuropeptide that sits upstream of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons, acting as a master switch for the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. It binds the GPR54 receptor to stimulate GnRH release, which then drives LH and FSH secretion. Because it operates above GnRH in the signaling chain, kisspeptin is studied as a way to restore suppressed reproductive hormone axes, such as after anabolic steroid use or in hypothalamic amenorrhea. The native peptide has a very short half-life of roughly 30 minutes and around 40% bioavailability. Clinical research is active, with human studies on healthy volunteers and patients with reproductive disorders, but kisspeptin is not an approved medication for any indication.
