# Gonadorelin Acetate

## Overview

Gonadorelin is the native, endogenous gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), a decapeptide produced by the hypothalamus. It binds receptors on the anterior pituitary to trigger LH and FSH release, which in turn drive testosterone and sperm production in men and estrogen and follicle development in women. Here is the catch: GnRH works only in pulses. Continuous administration suppresses the same axis it stimulates, which is why sustained GnRH agonists are used to shut down testosterone in prostate cancer. Native gonadorelin has a half-life of just a few minutes, around 10 minutes, and low bioavailability near 30%. It is used clinically as a diagnostic agent and experimentally for pulsatile hormone restoration.
