# Cagrilintide

Long-acting calcitonin/amylin analog used with semaglutide (CagriSema) for obesity; weekly injection.

## Overview

Cagrilintide is a long-acting synthetic analog of amylin, the peptide hormone co-secreted with insulin by pancreatic beta cells that produces satiety, slows gastric emptying, and suppresses glucagon. It is being developed by Novo Nordisk for obesity, most notably in the CagriSema combination with semaglutide, where the amylin and GLP-1 mechanisms stack for greater weight loss than either alone. Its half-life is roughly six and a half days with high bioavailability near 80%, which supports once-weekly subcutaneous dosing. Cagrilintide has a real and growing clinical evidence base, with Phase 3 trials underway for obesity and substantial weight-loss data from earlier phases. It is not yet an approved medication, but the human pharmacology is well characterized for a pipeline drug.
