## Overview

Adipotide (FTP peptide) is an experimental pro-apoptotic peptide designed to target and destroy the blood supply of white adipose tissue. It uses a motif that binds prohibitin, a protein expressed on the surface of white fat blood vessels, then delivers a pro-apoptotic signal that chokes off that vasculature. The intended result is rapid fat loss through deprivation of the fat tissue blood supply. Adipotide has an estimated half-life of roughly one hour and about 50% bioavailability. The compound showed dramatic fat loss in animal models, but development was effectively discontinued after significant safety concerns emerged, including kidney toxicity. Adipotide is not an approved medication and is not in active clinical development.
