# 5-Amino-1MQ

*Also known as: 5-amino-1MQ, 1MQ, 5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium*

Small-molecule NNMT inhibitor investigated for fat loss and metabolic research; limited human data.

## Overview

5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), the enzyme that methylates nicotinamide and regulates NAD+ metabolism and cellular methylation. Inhibiting NNMT has been linked in preclinical work to increased NAD+, improved insulin sensitivity, and reduced fat accumulation, which is why it is studied for fat loss and metabolic dysfunction. It is a small molecule, not a peptide, despite appearing in peptide catalogs. 5-Amino-1MQ has an estimated half-life of roughly 12 hours and around 50% bioavailability. The evidence base is almost entirely preclinical, with supporting data from cell and animal models. Human pharmacokinetic and efficacy data does not exist, and 5-Amino-1MQ is not an approved medication.
